Oconomowoc, WI—Cedar Ridge was filled with song Sunday afternoon as Christian Scientists and their friends from the area gathered together for the annual Principia Club Christmas Sing.
"It was so beautiful to look up and see the smiling faces of dear friends I haven't seen in a while. I felt truly filled with the spirit of the Christ and Christmas and am so grateful to all who gathered together in song," said Jennifer Moeller, Principia Club President of Eastern Wisconsin.
Mixed between the singing were readings from the Bible and Prose Works by Mary Baker Eddy regarding Christ's birth and the true idea of Christ as never born and never dying. To conclude the program, participants held hands and sang and hummed the Doxology—just like the conclusion of every hymn sing at Principia College.
The loving participants also baked and sent Moeller home with a trunk full of cookies that will be shipped overseas to troops who are currently deployed, as well as a box or two that will be sent to Principia and current students there.
One of the wives of a soldier who will be receiving the cookies wrote of her sincere gratitude. She said this is the second year in a row that her husband and his platoon have been away from home for the holidays. They will not be home next Christmas either. She knows that the soldiers will be touched by the packages of love and Christmas sent from home.
Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The 'still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound." (559:8-10).
Mrs. Eddy sums up the feeling of the day with her words from Miscellaneous Writings, "When angels visit us, we do not hear the rustle of wings, nor feel the feathery touch of the breast of a dove; but we know their presence by the love they create in our hearts. Oh, may you feel this touch, — it is not the clasping of hands, nor a loved person present; it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path!...More we cannot ask: more we do not want: more we cannot have. This sweet assurance is the 'Peace, be still' to all human fears, to suffering of every sort." (306:23-28, 307:7-10)
Thanks to all who attended and please keep watch for the next Principia Club event in the spring!
