childs light table liz darnerMe, learning to ask:

Listen in on my internal conversation, “Ha! I can do this; I’m smart enough.” Humility begs to differ. My innate intelligence is mine only because I am the pure reflection of the one divine Mind. The conversation continues, “But maybe I’m not good enough.”  The truth is, asking includes the expectation of good from God who is Love. And then, “Let me explain how I want this to turn out.” Really? Listen carefully instead of trying to instruct all-knowing, almighty God.

The May 20, 2012 Christian Science Bible Lesson is Soul and Body.

“Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical. It lifts the veil of mystery from Soul and body.”

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (114:23-25)

  • An understanding that God is the source of strength and fitness frees us from an unnecessary emphasis on food and exercise. Jesus said, “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.” (Luke 12:22)

grand piano ted gast 001One of my favorite TV shows is Keeping Up Appearances, a British comedy produced in the early 1990’s. The star of the show is Hyacinth Bucket, pronounced “bouquet,” a determined, snobbish middle-class woman who desperately attempts to climb the social ladder despite her middle-class underpinnings. In her mission to appear cultured and civilize the socially “less fortunate” she makes critical judgments of others and attempts to control their behavior.

The TV show is a comedic gem, because it’s obvious to viewers that Hyacinth doesn’t realize her obsession leads to unpleasant outcomes and prevents her from enjoying the good family and friends surrounding her. But opportunities for improvement in our own lives may not be so apparent and sometimes go unrecognized.

rainbow megan miller 001The Joint Lecture Committee began to meet in October to plan the spring joint lecture of Southeast Wisconsin.  We were to arrange for a Christian Science Lecturer who would bring healing to the community. As we prayed it became apparent that Ricardo Saldivar would be a strong choice because of his clear message that man is spiritual.  Arrangements were made for him to speak at the Milwaukee Art Museum in April.  He was very pleased to be coming from Illinois to speak.  Mr Saldivar’s new lecture would be ready to present at that time. To the committee this was a perfect fit.

The May 13, 2012 Christian Science Bible Lesson is Mortals and Immortals.

“Mortals are not like immortals, created in God's own image; but infinite Spirit being all, mortal consciousness will at last yield to the scientific fact and disappear, and the real sense of being, perfect and forever intact, will appear.”

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (295:11)

  • The human scene tempts us to believe we need human healthcare to fix sickness, exhaustion, pain, stress, allergies, and even old age. Jesus used spiritual healthcare. He proved that healing takes place in consciousness. He contradicted physical complaints and revealed the spiritual model of man that God created. Check out passages from the Bible and Science and Health in section 6.
