boys model trainsAs I travel through the year’s METs, focused on the Sermon on the Mount, I came in January to Lay up Treasures in Heaven. I’ve come to the treasure! Then I see the implied “you” in the statement – You lay up treasures in heaven. It’s not what someone else stores for me, but what I lay up for myself. What do I keep and what do I discard? Am I a saver – maybe even a hoarder? Or is my treasure trove pristine with no dust, no clutter, no – no treasures?

And where is this treasure, if there is one, stored?

My answer is in the statement itself. My treasure is that which doesn’t rust, doesn’t crumble with age, doesn’t rot. That can only be spiritual treasure – like the healing I received from a chemical burn on my face. And not just the physical healing but the treasured spiritual lessons learned from that healing: knowing that God is All – period; learning more about myself as not material, but spiritual; seeing that I am always safe from attack of any kind – real or imagined. That’s treasure that shines. I have so many treasures like this. I have a good store and am adding to it all of the time.

But where am I storing this treasure? Is it in my mind? – a mortal mind that could become confused or fall asleep? No. There is only one Mind. That is God. I reflect that Mind. Infinite gigabytes are available. This is storage that is clean, safe, and instantly accessible.

And so I am constantly adding to my treasures stored in heaven. Every Wednesday night I gather gold from the special Bible Lesson and gems from the testimonies. Every day as I study the Weekly Bible Lesson, I find nuggets, sometimes rough diamonds that just need my mental polishing to make them mine. Sundays in church, beside the wonderful service itself, I humbly receive the silent prayers of those in the congregation – prayers that are powerful and healing. Goodness, there are treasures everywhere!

I cherish these treasures and use them often. They are riches beyond measure.

Thank you, God, Lynne
